Greetings,
I'm Mrs Curtis-Bussey. Currently, I teach Sixth (6th) through Eighth (8th) grade Language Arts at the Alternative Virtual Academy Middle School (AVAMS). After graduating from high school, I studied at Fort Valley State University (Bachelor's Degree); Augusta University; Cambridge College (Master's and Specialist degrees). Outside of teaching, the thing that really makes me happy is family. I am married with three sons and one adorable grandson. I have a host of sisters and brothers with whom I share the most loving parents!
My philosophy about education cuts to the core of our society successes and/or failures. I believe that teachers (along with a village of parent(s) and community) have the awesome duty of delivering meaningful and sustainable instruction to every student despite race, religion, gender, and/or socioeconomics. I strongly believe if this village fails to uphold their responsibilities then we have failed the students! With that said, I need you (artery of the village) to help me ensure your child's academic success.
Note to Parents and students
Parents and students,
Welcome to another year of teaching and learning at the Alternative Virtual Academy Middle School (AVAMS)! Clayton County Public Schools Board of Education will start the 20-21 school year off with all students working virtually (online). The online platform that we will be utilizing is called Edgenuity. In addition to Edgenuity, we will use Google Classroom and/or Zoom to meet with students for lessons, conferences, and additional help as needed.
Language Arts Middle School Curriculum
Middle school students will focus on further advancing their writing, comprehension, and literature skills with the language arts curriculum. Students will delve into more detailed content across various literary genres, as well as enhance their vocabulary, grammar and parts of speech knowledge. Advanced comprehension skills are developed through the use of context clues, figurative language, point-of-view, and cause and effect, etc.
EXPECTATIONS

Edgenuity is available to students Monday through Sunday (24/7). Students are expected to log into Edgenuity daily for at least 1 hour in Language Arts.
